The Luce Line loops through the northern edge of Wayzata just north of Highway 12 for approximately one mile.

The downtown area lies on the north shore of Lake Minnetonka, less than one-half mile from the trail, but busy Highway 12 is a barrier between the trail and most of Wayzata. There is an elevated bicycle/pedestrian crossing of Highway 12 that is located at the intersection of the Luce Line Trail and Fairhill Road.

Other streets intersecting the trail that cross over Highway 12 are Highway 101 (Central Avenue), Ferndale Road, and Wayzata Boulevard

Wayzata was incorporated in 1883 and was originally part of Minnetonka Township. It covers about three square miles on the north and east shore of Lake Minnetonka. It offers retail services and lakeside restaurant opportunities to trail users.

Wayzata (population 3,688 on the 2010 census) is primarily a residential suburb with services and businesses found along the Highway 12 corridor and along downtown Lake Street.
